Title: Signalling end of priod
Post by: Ballistic Whistle on February 14, 2009, 10:43:11 am
How does your league signal the end of the period?

We don't have the luxury of having an operated period clock and therefore a stopwatch in the hands of the head ref is what we currently use. End of perido is signalled via a communication from the head ref to the announcers.

The reason I ask is that the end of the period always seems to be a little anti-climactic for the fans when it's just the head ref signalling to the announcers that the period is over.

We have the use of a period clock just the normal hockey scoreboard so us ref's and fans can see how much longer is to go but we stop the clock before the buzzer goes of to save for any distractions it may cause to the skaters.

Our jam timer bought one of these (http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___58642?CS_003=2476907&CS_010=58642) to use. Its a human powered horn. I had something similar I bought from a dollar store once, but this looks like it'll really work. I'll report back after our first bout that he uses it at.
