Title: A sneak peek at the first ZH book
Post by: Major Wood on March 04, 2011, 11:27:13 pm
Yes, ZH will be selling books soon. These books are part reference material, part notebook. Here's a quick description of what is inside:

The book contains pages for 25 bouts (6 pages per bout). Those pages are:

You'll notice that all the meeting topics pages have "talking points". The idea is that you cover these points however you need to and ZH won't be telling you how to run your bout. The talking points cover most commonly discussed/asked about topics.
With these pages being repeated for each bout, you'll be able to cross off topics, highlight topics, or write in new topics to tailor your meetings to the needs of each bout/crew.

The book is 4 x 6 x 0.34 inches. Designed to be easy to carry or drop into your pocket (certainly won't fit into small pockets, though). As an additional feature, the stripes are each 1/2" wide, so you can use them as a quick reference for checking boundary width/height, uniform numbers, etc.

This will be available in the ZH Store mid to late March for $10 USD. Though, if there are enough requests, I will start taking pre-orders.

If you're like me and you do a lot of pre-bout stuff in full gear, you don't want to be carrying around an expensive electronic device.

Trust me, I've badly broken phones before.

Yeah. It takes running over one Skittle on the floor and your expensive smart phone becomes a pocket full of smart phone parts.

There's NOTHING wrong with going analog from time to time. I won't be HR'ing as much this season, but I'll get one for myself anyway - and maybe a couple for gifts.

Gotta be honest, I kind of thought the first ZH book would be written by Jess and called "My Life With Wood," or something similar. ;)

I don't think there is quite enough paper available for that one...

I don't even own a smart phone, and I never carry my average intelligence phone when skating.  (the cord tends to trip too many people)

I have met a few refs who seem addicted to their electronic gadgets.  That's what made me think of the app idea.  The book does sound handy.  Best of luck with it.

I think it would be Wood I, or Wood I not, do it all over again?

Nice, I will definitely be buying one for myself.

Will there be a digital version available for purchase/download as well?

I have no plans for that, as a very large part of it is that it is meant to be written in.

You should have seen Spots' Fox 40 after he fell on the one in his hip pocket.

Fantastic idea. Will the "Talking Points" be similar to those compiled in the respective threads on ZH? It would be handy to have those in a compact print form.

Those threads were definitely used for reference in making this book.

As a newer referee with a brand new league, everything on zebra huddle I've found has been useful. This is no exception, I will be ordering one of these when they become available.

Any way to pay for this and other things on ZH without PayPal? I've been having a lot of trouble with them.

Unfortunately, using this software, I can't do anything else without losing money.

I can take a credit card if you don't mind giving me the information over email or phone, PM me if you're interested.

I promise you all he is trustworthy and will not start charging your card up for exotic illegal pets, ingredients to make meth, or fancy computers.

Perfect "I'm stylishly not looking at the camera, I'm looking at something important over there" pose as well.

I love how the book just blends right in, like it's camouflaged!  It makes me feel like I'm part of a secret club because I know how to find it, but your average derby picture viewer wouldn't even notice the ref has something in his hands!   :D

It is indeed a thing of beauty. I've bought three copies, and have gifted one already. The recipient bounced up and down like a 7 year old on Christmas morning when informed that the copy in their hands was theirs to keep..
