Title: Future of my manuals
Post by: Gravity Kills on July 31, 2012, 08:50:40 pm
WFTDA announced the publication of their new ruleset today. http://wftda.com/news/wftda-rules-update-fall

This is the big one.  No minors, plus the requisite smattering of other bits and bobs that change the jobs in new and interesting ways.  So I'm foreseeing some serious rewrites in my future.  They've been due for some updates and corrections for months now, and I've learned a lot of new things from being part of a newly-WFTDA league, but I've been holding off until this announcement mostly because I didn't want to do a barrage of updates and uploads just to have the announcement come down five minutes after I finished.

Unfortunately, this is coming at a challenging time for me personally.  Y'see, I'm also in the middle of another project... a 9-month long project that will end in a second, very complex, 18+ year long project.  Named Mina. :)  Soooo, I'm really hoping the new ruleset and StatsBook get published in EARLY fall, because I'm due in mid-December and don't want to be trying to revise manuals while focusing on my breathing.   And I'd rather not try to edit manuals while in serious sleep-deprivation/baby brain mode, for all of our sakes.

In short (too late), I just wanted to assure people that yes, I do plan on updating the manuals.  Yes, they'll take into account the massive shifts in the future of NSOing because of all the rules changes.  Yes, I do plan on fixing what's broken and creating whole new things to be told are broken later.  :)  It just may take a little time, depending on when things are released, both by WFTDA and by myself.

I'm also going to be asking for a lot of input on various topics, mostly focusing on how leagues are planning on dealing with merging/changing NSO roles in the face of the no-minors set.  Penalty trackers, wranglers, and whiteboard operators are going to be changing... but how?  As more information comes out from WFTDA, I'm going to want as much feedback as I can get so I can turn out the best manuals I can for you guys.

Lots of derby love,

Congrats!  As a father of 2 daughters I can only assure you of many years of love, happiness, frustration, crying(you), crying (them), cleaning up, timing out and utter bewilderment  ;).

Oh, and I think your manuals are awesome- thanks again for all the hard work you have put in on them, I have found them very useful.

Thanks guys! :)  We're really excited.

I'm currently on hiatus as an NSO, since I'm kinda limited in the positions I can work right now, and fully expect to go into withdrawal quickly.  While I'm planning on continuing that time off from active NSOing for probably at least a full year, I do hope to stay a part of derby and the derby official community, and I do want to keep these manuals going.  So I'm not going far.  :)

Congrats from a fellow new derby mom!  ;D  I was confined to the penalty box for my last bout or so the end of last season.  And then I actually had to WATCH a home bout (WHAT?)

Thank you for all of your work in putting these materials together for all of us to use!  Best of luck to you and your expanding family!

Your manuals have been wonderful and have saved my behind on more than one occasion. If I can help out with the new editions in any way, just ask.
