Announcing points per pass verbally
« on: February 13, 2009, 05:59:16 pm »
7.5.2 Points are announced, verbally and by hand signal, once the Jammer has cleared the pack.

Does anyone do this?

As a jam ref, I count points with the fingers of my raised left hand so the fans can see.  If we are using two scorekeepers, I will call the points into my scoring person on each pass.  If there is only one scoring person, I give them points at the end of the jam and keep track of the total in my head.

We do, and I think it's a good practice. Calling points verbally is good for letting the other jammer ref know how many scoring passes your jammer has made, which in turn makes it easier to keep track of lap points.

I think I'm gonna try to start doing this, and have our other refs do it too. I can't see a bad side to it.

I've done it previously, but generally just use the one hand up technique now.

Most times in loud bouts nobody can hear you, but I still do it because verbalizing helps fix in my memory what happened.
