I'm curious to know how exactly people are running the penalty clocks. Currently we're using two penalty timers who sit behind the box with three stop watches each. I'm convinced there must be a better way that doesn't require the timers to divide their attention between three stop watches and nine buttons. Ideas?

Nevermind, just saw the flash timer thead - http://www.zebrahuddle.com/index.php?topic=154.msg0#new

For a lo-tech answer, see my response two slots up -- it's already hopelessly dated, but all you need is a pencil, paper and one stopwatch.  Just one idea that's been reinvented many times over... seems to work.  Can be tweaked to give you a "stand-up time" and "release time" of course.

For cutting-edge answers that may require more in the way of hardware, see the other thread on "Penalty Box Timer" at http://www.zebrahuddle.com/index.php?topic=154.0

But there's certainly something to be said for a system that DOESN'T rely on technology and is less susceptible to malfunctions and power outages.

Well, unless you're going to rely on a sand-based hour-glass type approach you are going to end up using technology.  Stopwatches can do really weird things when the batteries are low.
