The Jam Timer Question
« on: November 18, 2010, 06:45:53 am »
I think the question I have goes here as it is for NSO,

This would pertain to the Jam Timer (might be doing that this weekend and would like to be ready if certain situation comes up).

Situation:  Period 2, score tied, jam ends with less than :30 but more than :00 left, neither team has timeouts remaining, head ref sees no reason to call ref. timeout (OVERTIME).

When should the Jam Timer start the 1:00 instead of :30 clock in this situation?

Thank you for your time.

When the period time runs out.

Teams can still call a timeout in that 0-30 seconds triggering another jam.

If I were HR'ing,

If both teams had 0 Time outs, score tied less than 30 seconds remaining with no reason for an Official Time Out to stop the clock, I'd let the last few seconds die out.

Then confirm with the scorekeepers that it is in fact a Tie bout. Call the Captains/Alternates over with the Refs, go briefly over the procedures for a Tie game. (Natural Conclusion, 1 minute between jams, no lead jammer, immediate scoring, etc.)

Ask if they have any questions, then skate to the announcer/announcers table if they weren't already involved in that last huddle.

Then signal for the Jam Timer to start the 1 Minute between jams clock.

If I were Jam Timing,
I'd ask the head ref how they wanted it handled.
