You can think of the "Beginner" clinic more like an intermediate class. Though it's called beginner it's not meant for refs who have only skated a couple scrimmages. It's meant for officials who have been around a while and have a solid foundation.
Either way it's great stuff that will make any official better at what you do.

Yeah, as you can see "beginner" was probably not the best name.  It should have been "introductory" or something like that.

I can only imagine how great this would have been when I was in my second year or so... when Memphis first got into WFTDA I was way behind in my development as a referee even though I'd been reffing for around 2 years.

Yes!  I went to the ref clinic last year, which was the tournament level one, and while I learned a lot, I had a lot of stuff I just wasn't ready to learn yet.  I had played derby for 3 seasons, then had a season and a half of reffing at that point.  The "beginner" clinic would have suited me perfectly.  Heck, even now I'm sure I would learn stuff at the "beginner" clinic, but I'm trying to do the Big 5 this year, so I've opted for the "advanced".

Bumping this again- a lot of your questions would be addressed in the ref clinics! All of you should sign up for one!
Hey look, a search function! Right up there! No on the left

Perhaps we should all spend a little more time reading and a little less time making shit up.

Speaking of, WFTDA just announced recently what is going to be covered.

Sadly I would not be able to attend both days clinics as I am scheduled to work on Sundays.

hopefully they will announce soon what exactly is going to be covered in the 2 day clinic being held in Australia at the end of July.... Only a little excited since my League is paying for me to go, so there will be lots of questions and lots of notes taken to help my League develop  :)

i'd seen that, but to me it appears they are running a combined Beginner and Advanced clinic, where as the rest of them apart from Germany are either 2 days for Beginner or Advanced....  either way it will be good...

Before you guess what is covered where and when why don't  you ask Sarah Hipel, WFTDA Referee Training and Certification Coordinator
She can answer your questions about specific clinics...

For Killbox, Pantichrist and Judge Knot...  THANK YOU for an incredible learning experience. To the other refs and NSOs that attended, you guys are AWESOME!

New perceptions, skating techniques, advice... totally worth it.

I totally agree ChopStewie. The clinic was well worth it. A LOT of things got put in perspective and were clarified. Oh, and if you are lucky enough to see Sarah skate, you will be amazed. Like you said, Judge Knott and Pantichrist were excellent.
