No Pack/Pack is.... ?
« on: July 04, 2011, 12:25:43 pm »
Hi Guys,

Had one of our skaters ask me a question I couldn't answer the other day, and could do with your help!

Situation is Blue team is a full pack and jammer, green team are a full pack with jammer in bin!

If the blue team is ahead, and the green team behing, creating a no pack situation, which of the teams is elligable to re-form the pack? Do the blue team fall back, or is the onus on the green to catch up the front?

I had a quick look at 6.10.2 which states both teams are responsable, but would both pivots be penalized, or just one from the main offending team?

I did ask one of my ref's his opinion of this before posting, and he said some ref's are using a "pack is front/pack is back" option. After some thought on this, I felt I have to disagree as it didn't really answer the query on two full seperate packs. I would agree with him if say the blue pack were goating a green team member.

Your opinions are all welcome, Cheers!

Two groups of 4 blockers is a "no pack", blue team must slow or stop to avoid a penalty and green team must actively skate. If either fails to do so the skater most responsible should be given a failure to reform minor followed by a major if the action is sustained.

Pack is front/back is just communication between refs to let them know where the pack is. So 5 blockers in the front group 3 in the rear group "pack is front". 3 in the front 5 in the back "pack is back". All this assumes the two groups are more than 10 feet apart.
