Woops... Zebra Huddle stats sheets.

I just clicked on the Grand Slams and Majors for Roller Dex, Skillz, and Mos Ref until I figured out what they did. Now I don't know how many I clicked on in what direction.

I just clicked on the Grand Slams and Majors for Roller Dex, Skillz, and Mos Ref until I figured out what they did. Now I don't know how many I clicked on in what direction.

When I get home, I'll take a look and see what I can figure out what I need to do to correct that.
In the future send this kind of messge to me as a PM.

For anyone else who doesn't know what the "grand slam/major" links are... They are the karma system for this forum. Think of it as a review for members of this forum.
If someone posts something that you think is very helpful, give them a "grand slam". If someone posts something very negative or inflammatory, give them a "major".

The idea is that over time, it will be easy to see who offers a lot of insight or someone who is well trusted, as well as showing you who you might want to take with a grain of salt.

The karma system will not be available to members until they who have posted less than three times.

Did you mean more than 3 times?
Hey look, a search function! Right up there! No on the left

Perhaps we should all spend a little more time reading and a little less time making shit up.

Even though JoeXcore decided to flame me harshly with majors (probably because he has some beard jealousy), how do I see what my stats are with grand slams and majors?

You don't see how many of each you get, but instead you see the total.
You get a running count. A grand slam adds 1 point, while a major deducts 1 point. As of this post you have 1 point. That could be 1 grand slam or 3 grand slams and 2 majors.

I went on and posted it for everyone that way maybe others wouldn't make the same mistake... and I'd learn more about it.

I have this idea that clicking links on trusted web sites can't hurt anyone... usually they're obvious if they do something.. like "block" "ban" etc.

They are located under the user name and picture, next to the post. You won't have access to them until you have posted 3 times, this is just a means to prevent abuse.

Hey, would there be a way to put a cap on how many stat points someone can get (in either direction) on any given post? I'm starting to see people with +8 or -11 or whatever, and it's hard to tell if that means that person posted one good piece of advice that a lot of people happened to vote up, or if they're consistently giving good advice. Or bad advice.

I know it's still early in this board's history, and maybe it's irrelevant, but my thought is that it's not necessary to count more than +/-2 or 3 points on any one post.

My feeling on it is that it will even itself out. If you have one bad post and a bunch of people give you a major, it should level out because of your other posts that people can give a bunch of grand slams for.

I don't know of a way to change it to do what you are saying. I am now going to be monitoring karma, to make sure that there isn't any abuse going on.

I really liked the idea of karma at first, and I understand that maybe it's a little more polite than some of the approaches taken elsewhere. But the more I think about it, the less I like it. It's easy to click those links and hide behind the cloak of passive-aggressive anonymity, but it's not really constructive, especially when there's no indication of what posts people find offensive or why.

Like I said, I will be monitoring it for abuse.
I will be able to see who is modifying whose stats sheets, and what topic they did it for.

This is also why you may have seen some error messages in the past half hour or so...

I still very much like the idea as a whole. I think that with proper monitoring, it will be useful. Especially after the site has been around for some time.

Also, it is now required that you supply a reason for giving a grand slam or major.

this is what i think too - for what it's worth

at first i thought it was a great idea - since one of the things people struggle with in the yahoo group is who they should listen to. seemed this karma point idea might give some indication on who knows their stuff

but now - since ANYONE can assign these points, these points are being given and taken away by people who arent necessarily correct about a particular post

not to mention, just because a heap of people think the same about something doesnt mean they're right

i really like the idea too, but i'm probably not going to assign these points anymore

out of interest - how's the monitoring going to work?
what criteria are you going to use to determine inappropriate use?
