I sleep until 1:00 pm and collect unemployment.  I'm supposed to be a social worker or something.  I bake a lot of cupcakes and pretend roller derby is my job.

I'm also rocking the unemployment right now. In a past life I was a Reprographics Manager, which just means I used big photocopiers all day long.

In addition to treating roller derby as my job, I'm applying to grad school for graphic design and trying to sell chainmail jewelry on the internet. You can take a look if you want to support OPERATION GRADUATE DEGREE.

Well, if you're serious... I could probably make one out of aluminum with short or no sleeves for about $750. Materials alone would be about $200, which is the main reason I haven't started making one yet :)

This includes the caveat that even made from aluminum, a chainmail shirt weighs 5-6lbs, is completely impractical, and leaves weird bruise patterns. But it breathes well.

Wow 5-6 lbs is light for a chain shirt, granted I'm used to a 4-2 or 6-1 weave for Chain,

Ruth do you buy your links from Ringlord or crank them yourself?

Can you take this  (more or less non-derby) discussion to Personal Messages? Thank you.

I'm an IT Consultant, just the run of the mill sort. Networks, Virtualisation, VOIP, blah, blah, blah...

Bronco & Tootie. I'm a scooterist too, unfortunately I don't have any vintage models at the moment. Currently have a PX T5 Classic and a PX125EFL (though it is a full custom one)

I also used to restore VW beetles and maybe I'll admit to keeping the odd herp.

And I supplement that with restorations of vintage Vespa and Lambretta motorscooters

Hell yeah Bronco, we gotta ride when you come down for Westerns!  What bike(s) you got?
I work at Sportique Scooters, new and vintage bikes, parts, and repair.
I too ride vintage scooters, though I wouldn't necessarily call them "restorations".  As if scooters weren't dorky enough, I am a proud member of the Jedi Knights Scooter Club (You can't spell Jackass w/o JKSC)
I recently bought one third of a '72 Porsche 914 that myself and the other 2/3 owners will be learning to rally race in.  It shouldn't be a stretch as I am a retired cab driver.

1966 Vespa Supersport 180
1977 Vespa 50 Special (Malossi 134 kit)
1979 Vespa Rally 200 (Ducati)
1976 Lambretta GP150

I had a 1971 Porsche 914 for many years and loved it.  The PCA drivers still turn the top time of the day in a 914.

I would enjoy a ride with you in Colorado, and have never been to Sportique, but Erico and Casa Lambretta know my Visa card pretty well ;)

Again, folks, if it ain't derby, it ain't derby. Off-list, please.

I've been lurking for a while and thought this would be as good a thread as any to introduce myself...

I'm a former skater, and new-ish Ref for Memphis Roller Derby. In my "other" life, I'm an event and meeting planner, a wife of 18 years and the mother of a very active 5 year-old. I have quite a few hobbies, but reffing is my number one hobby.

I've enjoyed reading through all the threads and using the information to help make me a better ref. Thanks for starting this up, Maj. It's definitely appreciated.

xoxo
