Action/Error Tracking Instructions
« on: October 07, 2011, 08:16:46 pm »
Our league sometimes has enough NSO's to do actions and errors tracking. We are looking for some proper instructions and further clarifications on the actions/errors/hits/ etc. We do usually use skaters to look for the actions but they still seem confused on some of the terminology. Does anyone have a specific manual or instruction sheet for these?

Sadly, I have never had any instruction on it, so I'm not adding it to my manual set.

See if you can message Grand Poohbah (Tim) He's my WFTDA stats Guru. He might be able to explain it :-)

If you can't get him on here ( I'm not sure how often he checks ZH) you can private message him on www.skatelogforum.com  or facebook, but I don't remember his lastname.

The only rules I've come across regarding both of these NSO positions is: don't. I wanted to have action tracking for our league championship in December, and the visiting NSOs from a WFTDA-sanctioned league said it's not standard practice.

The difference between stats and NSOs are whether or not the information being recorded is potentially critical to the smooth running of a bout.  Anything an NSO is doing is something that may be needed during the bout.

Stats records information that is important in a whole variety of ways, but is not important to the running of the bout.

Some leagues integrate the stats and NSO crews together, some don't.  But in a lot of places that are dedicated specifically to bout officiating, the stats side of things will not be talked about and you can run into very experienced officials who know very little about stats and stats tracking because their league doesn't integrate them so they never receive training in it.
