With the latest release behind us, we wanted to let everyone know of the next release that just arrived.

Our Roller Derby Scoreboard is now in release 1.6.  And that means that we have added a few more features along with more bug fixes. The main features we added are:

  • Save and Load - We enhanced your operator to save and load games.  Where they can now save multiple games from setting the scoreboard up from the night or a couple nights before.  Saving the game, and then loading the game up the day of.
  • Past History of Jams - With another policy control added, you can now allow your crowd to see the past 5 jams and their scores via the main scoreboard.  During lineups, the scoreboard will now show the last 5 jams scores.
  • Cleaning up - We cleaned up the interfaces as well.  Made them our nice purple along with adding Tabs where they were needed.

The full blog post can be found here: http://blog.rdnation.com/post/24456655301/thors-hammer-v1-6-roller-derby-scoreboard

http://blog.rdnation.com/post/27872826024/publish-your-roller-derby-game-online-step-by-step) to set this up so it is very simple and only requires a couple steps to publish a Roller Derby Game Online for the world. Please keep in mind, that this is still a soft release, which means we are still building out some functionality of the website, but a lot of the functionality will still be there.

On August 3rd, 2012 we will be using this brand new functionality for the first time for the South Jersey Banked Track Bout.  The game is at 8PM EST, so you will start to see the game on RDNation.com at that time.  On August 4th we will be delivering the functionality to the world.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@rdnation.com.

The full blog post about this release can be found here: http://blog.rdnation.com/post/27873068163/new-scoreboard-release-on-august-4th-2012

[rule]9.1.5.4 - Scoreboard Operator: A game will have one scoreboard operator. The scoreboard operator posts the score from the scorekeeper and the penalties from the penalty tracker.[/rule]

I'm just looking for a scoreboard that's actually WFTDA-compliant, ya'll.

From everything I've seen, it doesn't exist, without using multiple projectors. The only thing I've seen that has a full penalty display is Rinxter and it is very difficult to read.

In short, don't worry about the penalty part of 9.1.5.4

It doesn't list the penalties, which is actually WFTDA rule. None of them do, as Major Wood just posted. If you want to make an awesome roller derby scoreboard that everyone wants to use, make it WFTDA-compliant, since nobody else's is.

Smack, it's not really possible. Screen real estate is at a premium and it is not easy to fit everything on the screen and still have it easy to read. Having penalties on there would be at the detriment of what you actually need a scoreboard for, time and score.

In addition to that, there are other significant hurdles to getting penalties on the scoreboard. The penalties have to be transmitted to the scoreboard in order to be displayed. This creates a problem for a league acquiring the appropriate hardware ($$$) to make it possible. It also creates an issue with having IT people who can set it up. Lastly, you need to train people for the system and (hopefully) have a backup system in place.

We once again just updated our Roller Derby Scoreboard.

The feature we released this time was a small want from a team in another country.  They asked for video overlays so they can show the score during a game on video.  Make sense?  Well we went ahead and helped them with this feature.  We hope everyone here likes it to.  We have more updates to the feature coming, but as of now we think its good enough to release.

The blog post about it can be found here: http://blog.rdnation.com/post/29169849374/showing-video-with-our-roller-derby-scoreboard

As always, feel free to contact us at info@rdnation.com.

I hope you enjoy this new feature!

Another Update!

While Zebra Huddle was down, we went ahead and made another update!  Thanks Major Wood for both bringing it back up and providing an excellent service.

We pushed another update to our Scoreboard and this time it has to do with Stats management.

We wanted a way to collect all the stats of the particular game.  So we created a small mini server that helps push out the video overlay feature we already have. http://blog.rdnation.com/post/29169849374/showing-video-with-our-roller-derby-scoreboard

This time, we built onto the mini server a way to collect stats.  The stats include all penalties, assists, blocks, line ups and all points scored by a particular player.  We have given access to 5 NSOs to collect stats for the entire game.  Built in the web browser, it won't matter which type of device your NSO has, Laptop, iPhone, Android or a windows phone.  As long as it has a web browser, you can use it.  We went ahead and blogged about it with screenshots here: http://blog.rdnation.com/post/29797206608/roller-derby-scoreboard-release-1-7-3-stats-management

Once the stats are collected with the scoreboard, we will then automatically upload those stats for later use.  Your team can export them, view them, attach each block, assist and penalty to the online profiles at RDNation.com.  If your not aware, our scoreboard shows all games published online for the world to see.  That means, fans can go to RDNation.com and view the game, its stats as it happens live online.  For a example of this, here is a game from this past month. http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-game/152fa630ecd14a61926b31b7da62e8ef/Hot-August-Night/Vinyard-Vixens/Beltway-Betties

Our scoreboard was used, and the entire game was online so fans can watch it from where ever they are located. To set it up, you can read this blog post. http://blog.rdnation.com/post/27872826024/publish-your-roller-derby-game-online-step-by-step

If you haven't used our scoreboard, I would suggest you try it out.  We offer all of this for FREE.  Live stats, player and league profiles, team pictures, skater pictures and even a live conversation thread so your fans can talk about the game.

You can download the scoreboard here: http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-scoreboard

If you would like to see everything our scoreboard can do, just go to the download page and scroll down.  There is a large feature list there.

As always, feel free to contact us at anytime at info@rdnation.com, with feedback, questions or concerns.

Thank you.  We are working very hard on it.

The Mac/Linux version won't be out for another year or so as we have more pertinent items on our todo list first.

I would suggest finding a windows box and giving it a try at least.  Macs also have the ability to run Windows since 2006.  http://store.apple.com/us/browse/guide/windows

Maybe that will convince you or what else would you like to see?

Hey All,

The next release of our scoreboard is out.  We made a lot of updates and bug fixes.  This time though, it was mainly to our saving/loading and our online game portal.

Saving and Loading has both been upgraded.  You can now save all the games from the scoreboard, and actually transfer the save game file and put it on a new computer.  From there, it will load up everything just how it was on the last computer.  All the stats, pictures and teams are all now saved in the save game file.

We updated our scoreboard for crashing as well.  In the event of a crash of any kind, the scoreboard will see the crash and ask if you want the old game from before the crash.

We finally updated our Online Game portal.  Games that are published online, or loaded online can now be moved around, adding ownership and adding players to each game.

You can publish the game online during the bout to show live stats, pictures etc or save the game once its completed and upload it to the games portal of RDNation.com.  Once the game has been loaded online, your league can match the skaters online to the game it self.  Therefore giving each skater stats on their profile page. As you can see here: http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-skater/Tastee-Freeze/35411d2c0e3b4a7e884bea39a2c070c3

Each one of your skaters will now have stats on their profile.

You also can now add each game to a created tournament!  So that tournaments can now be shown online for all to see.  As shown here for one of the tournaments already online. http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-tournament/647b1d0a606e41d7a7340ff897248c4d/Colossal-Coastal-Roller-Expo

I hope you enjoy the new features with putting your Roller Derby Games LIVE online for the world to see!!

As always, feel free to contact me at info@rdnation.com if you need anything.

Some Stats:
Downloaded: 2,342 times
Used By: 304 Leagues World Wide

I hope with some of these simple stats, you might be interested in showing it to your league as well.  We are truly making headway and want all the leagues to be apart of what we are trying to create...

Today we are releasing more features on our Roller Derby Scoreboard.

This is only a minor update, but includes two BIG features that will hopefully change the way some of you use the scoreboard.

  • We now allow you to control all the basic functionality of the scoreboard through a mobile device.  So lets say your head Ref or Head NSO wanted to control the functionality of the game with their phone or tablet, they now have that ability with our scoreboard.  You can now Start/Stop Jams, Start a Official/Team time out and Add/Subtract Team Points.  All this can now be done with a mobile device and you no longer need a scoreboard operator for the basic functions of the scoreboard.
  • The scoreboard now collects Referee and NSO rosters.  Which means, you can fill out rosters of the Referee and NSO crew inside the scoreboard.  Once filled out, the rosters can be saved and published to RDNation servers when you have the game online at RDNation.com.  So for each Referee or NSO that has participated in the game, their online RDNation "Profile" will reflect the game they attended along with their position they filled.  This feature is a HUGE step forward for both RDNation and the entire Referee/NSO community.  Referees and NSOs will get recognized just like the skaters for each game they participate in.
