Agreed.  For those leagues that are WFTDA, wouldn't use this feature, but for those leagues that only skate The WFTDA rule set, but don't feel a need for regulation can use this feature.

Thanks SilkenTofu.

The scoreboard now collects Referee and NSO rosters.  Which means, you can fill out rosters of the Referee and NSO crew inside the scoreboard.  Once filled out, the rosters can be saved and published to RDNation servers when you have the game online at RDNation.com.  So for each Referee or NSO that has participated in the game, their online RDNation "Profile" will reflect the game they attended along with their position they filled.  This feature is a HUGE step forward for both RDNation and the entire Referee/NSO community.  Referees and NSOs will get recognized just like the skaters for each game they participate in.

I was playing around with this feature and noticed that there is only space for 10 NSOs. Additionally, the only named positions for the NSOs are:

Head NSO
Penalty Box Team 1
Penalty Box Team 2
Penalty Wrangler
NSO

The position thing isn't too big of a deal, because everyone can just be an "NSO", but I am curious as to why the other positions were not included (your blog references the ability for officials to see online "what vital positions they filled").

Of bigger concern is the limit of ten NSOs. Sanctioned games are only required to have seven NSOs, but most full crews have been 14. With the new ruleset, we will probably be going with 12. However, your software adds the possibility of additional NSOs just for entering realtime stats.

We will add the ability to add 14 NSOs.  We have designed it so that it now works with the new  Rule Set, but we haven't really been able to understand clearly how many NSOs will be needed for that rule set.

While we are at it, would you like to see more "Position Types" added?  If so, what positions would they be?

Do they have to be hardcoded?  Could you not add the functionality of "adding a position" so that if I want to have a "Track Tape Fixing Specialist," a "Bench Coach Liaison," and an "Announcer Ref" then I can simply add the NSO and label the position?

* Note that with the exception of the announcer ref, which I greatly enjoy having, the other two are figments of my imagination.

Well, any position mandated by Rule 9.1.5 would be a real good start, as you can be assured those are the minimum staffing that will be used in any game until there is a new rule set published that changes those requirements.  (The list you provided only accounts for two of the required seven officials, and includes some non-required positions.)

I love the idea of customizable fields as Eject said. We use a "Score wrangler", which is not a position I have ever seen elsewhere, so adding our own positions would be great.  If they are hardcoded only, I would suggest these position types:

Jam Timer
Penalty Wrangler
Penalty Tracker
Whiteboard
Penalty Box Manager
Penalty Box Timer
Lineup Tracker
Scorekeeper
Scoreboard Operator
Head NSO
NSO (general/undefined)
Volunteer

And 14 may not be enough. There may be NSOs dedicated to entering realtime stats PLUS those who are doing paper copies for backup. At Rinxter-supported bouts I've worked, there were 14 standard NSOs plus about 5 more doing realtime stats.

Im gonna try and answer all your concerns in one post.

Thank you for the complete list of officials and nice to haves.  We will include that in the next update.  Hopefully in the next couple days.

We will create the ability to dynamically add all the NSOs/Referees you want.  I don't see a problem with that, so at sanctioned bouts, you will could add an unlimited amount of NSOs/Refs.

As for hard coding position names, we will have to stay with that.  If your interested in adding different positions not within the set of positions, feel free to ask us, and we will add them ourselves.  Our reason behind this is, we don't want the archived records at RDNation to become unweilding.  We have a lot of teams using our scoreboard.  Imagine if there is a spelling mistake or someone decides to put in "mascot"...  We need to assign positions, so if the mascot is something you are interested in, just ask us and we will add it.

Thanks for the 9.1 Rule Set.  Another small thing we are always working on is allowing all the rule sets to be used with our scoreboard.  This means that we have to track every rule set, not just WFTDA.

We just made a major release of Thor’s Hammer, RDNations Roller Derby Scoreboard today.

This was big push to fix some major bugs, along with some back end management of jam data and some large feature enhancements.  Below are the list of major enhancements made to the scoreboard.

Save and Load Teams - Now within the Team Manager window, you can save and load past teams.  Therefore making it faster and easier to create new games.  It will save both pictures and information about each player.  So the Save and Load can be moved between computers. The save and load feature is located within the team manager.

Referee & NSO Manager Upgrades - From the last upgrade, we gave leagues the ability to add Referees and NSOs to their line ups. We made a minor upgrade which allows leagues to add an infinite amount of Referees and NSOs.  It is no longer restricted by only 10 Refs and NSOs.  Many more positions have also been added to the NSO management.

More Server Controls - We have been refining our server for total control of the game from a mobile device.  You can now control the basic functions of a game all from one mobile device.
First open the server window.

Video Overlay Upgrades - We have made some BIG improvements to the video overlay screen.  It now has its own tab.  You can make changes based on colors, logos, team names.  We now give you the ability to almost fully control the video overlay for your games.  We are still working on this feature and will have a much more advanced screen in the coming weeks, but this should get each league up and running quickly.
Based on the features changed within the overlay screen, you can pretty much manipulate almost any part of the overlay.  It will take some small amount of getting used to, but its highly capable of manipulating almost any feature of the overlay.

Scoreboard Themes - The last thing we added with this scoreboard was a theme.  We wanted you to have the ability to add multiple themes, so we gave you the idea with this theme, that it can be done.  All we ask is that you email us to get the conversation started.  You can then have a theme just for your league.

One of the leagues using Thor's Hammer had a tournament this weekend called the Derby Ink Invitational.  We asked them to write something up for us so we can publicize how well of a job it did from their perspective.  I thought I would share it here to show you how nice of a Scoreboard Thors Hammer is.
RDNation provides a Roller Derby scoreboard called Thors Hammer.

To download Thors Hammer, http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-scoreboard

This weekend, Thor's Hammer (TH) was used at a multi-game tournament called Derby Ink Invitational.

There were a total of 16 games played at this tournament.  You can view them here: http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-tournament/4129d7a99e3b4b53b02ae72e8b690553/Derby-Ink-Invitational

This post is to show everyone how powerful Thor's Hammer is as a Roller Derby Scoreboard.

Before the tournament it self, we logged into RDNation and created a brand new tournament under the games menu.  Therefore creating the Derby Ink Invitational tournament.  We assigned it a password, a paywall for the live video streaming and even a Shop to sell merchandise through while viewers watch the tournament.

We then opened up Thor's Hammer after downloading it from the link above.  We created a new game, then opened up the team manager.  For each team that was playing, 12 to be precise.  We filled out each line up under the team manager, added pictures and then saved those teams out using the "Save Team" feature.  Team Bionic, Made All-Stars, Penn Jersey, Rogue etc.

From there, the scoreboard was ready to go to start using at the actual tournament it self.

So on the day of the tournament, we opened a new scoreboard for each game.  We started a brand new game, went into the Team Manager and loaded each team from the "Load Team" feature and it loaded flawlessly with the pictures attached.  I want you to keep in mind that the computer we  saved the team files to and loaded from was entirely different.  Transferring the saved files via email.

After we created a new game, we filled out the game name, location etc.  From there we used the "Game Management" link that appears at the top of the scoreboard when its connected to the internet.

After following that link, publishing the game, attaching it to the Derby Ink tournament we create a few days before hand and attaching the "Shop" and "paywall for live streaming" to this game, we were ready to go.  We hit the Publish button and it started broadcasting on RDNation.com for all to see!

Each time a Jam was created, points were added, time outs were taken, line ups, penalties and stats were tracked and TH very nicely updated ALL those stats online flawlessly and may I say, quite LIVE.

Once the game was completed, we clicked the "Game Over" button in which that particular game was then saved out to our special Derby Ink folder we kept on the desktop.  It then asked us to Upload that game to RDNation directing us to the exact website link we should upload it to.  Once uploaded, we were able to view ALL the stats, see profiles and attach each skater to their perspective profile online.  It even uploaded their Profile Pictures to the LIVE game.

Once we viewed the game online, TH is also able to export Stats Sheets in the standard format for the tournament.  We were happy to use those and print them out so that skaters could personally see what they did during each game.

To view a couple games:

http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-game/30ee6254366e4666bf7f23c4c288f37a/Derby-Ink-Game-7/Rogue/Love-City

All this was done with very simple setup.  It was quite simple to complete.  From the tournament it self, we also sold a few shirts with the shops section of the tournament.  We were happy to have the game Live Streaming online, sell some shirts and offer ALL our fans LIVE stats of every game at Derby Ink.

As you can also see, each player that played also has their own profile and stats for that game.

http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-skater/Anita-Bodybag/d92e019b49244e60b16f2ae6c8bd18ba

Its not a lot, but its an absolute incredible start to what promises to be an amazing platform to offer Live Games, Live Streaming, Merchandise Sales and even Live Stats of every player that has used Thors Hammer to play a game.

If you ask me, they are building what could be considered ESPN for Roller Derby.

I just wanted to say thank you to the RDNation Team for building such an impressive platform!

Hey All,

I know this is a WFTDA centric forum mainly, but I wanted to keep this in line with all the other releases we made.

For any of those teams testing or using the MADE rule set, you now have the ability to export the completed MADE stat book at the end of each game via Thor's Hammer.

We blogged about it here, so if your interested, feel free to check it out.

http://blog.rdnation.com/post/49152816661/made-workbook-export-thors-hammer

We are working on the WFTDA workbook next.  We just wanted to prove it can be done first, but also wanted to wait for the new WFTDA workbook to be completed because of the changed rule set.

I hope you guys enjoy this new feature.

You can download the roller derby scoreboard here: http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-scoreboard

Thanks!

Exporting the WFTDA Workbook Release
« Reply #56 on: July 17, 2013, 09:12:48 pm »
Exporting the WFTDA Workbook Release.

We made a big release we have been working on for a small amount of time.  You can now Export the WFTDA workbook from Our Scoreboard, Thors Hammer.

Before a game, you can export a workbook to be printed out when the scoreboard operator has filled out all Team Rosters, Ref Rosters, and Game information. This will export a completed IBRF page for the workbook.

During a game, you can export the WFTDA workbook to watch the stats of the game be filled in.  Maybe during halftime, you would be interested in looking at stats or updating teams on their stat information.

After the game, you can export the WFTDA workbook to complete any empty information that might not be filled in by Thors Hammer, but when you collect stats properly with the stats collection software within the scoreboard, you WILL have a solid export of the WFTDA workbook. You should only have to finish a few remaining files up which your only minutes away from the ability to email the report to WFTDA.

Thors Hammer will populate the following pages fully if the Team/NSO/Ref Manager is filled out to its fullest, as well as all the stats being taken properly with the stats input pages.  These are all pages required by The WFTDA.

IBRF
Score
Penalties
LineUps

A how to document for your NSO staff can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Sdh7hoRnIWyQm8DdvP7jmIoo93VRSdxblOt3YKeVhBk/edit

Announcers Page, with this release, we also included an announcer page, which announcers can use to talk about jam stats, player stats, etc...  This can be found under the Stats/Mobile Button.

We have been in contact with a MAJOR tournament and in the next week, they will be using Thors Hammer as their primary scoreboard, stats collection and workbook reporting software.  We have already tested the workbook feature at multiple bouts and one other tournament.  We fully believe with this upgrade, Thors Hammer is by far the best and most advanced roller derby scoreboard there is.  We hope you will too.

There are over 700 leagues using the scoreboard from around the world.  If your league hasn't started using it yet, we ask you to give it a try.

We have received expressed permission from The WFTDA to populate the workbook with Thors Hammer.

Thanks for listening everyone!

You can download the scoreboard here: http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-scoreboard

The blog post is here: http://blog.rdnation.com/post/55713526074/exporting-the-wftda-stats-workbook

Tracking Official Reviews For Roller Derby Games
« Reply #57 on: July 22, 2013, 06:42:23 pm »
We just released another version of our Roller Derby Scoreboard today.  This release has everything to do with Official Reviews.

Your league can now track and record all the official reviews of a bout.  This is mainly used for The WFTDA rule set, but when an official review occurs, the scoreboard operator can click on Official Review.

Once opened, they can keep the window open and move it anywhere on the screen.

Once an official review has been completed, the scoreboard operator can type in the details of the review along with the result of the review.

For each review, The WFTDA workbook will be populated with the details of the review.  This includes both the period time, jam time and even fills in the head referee and official review tracker when filled in on the NSO Manager.

We hope this button will make the scoreboard operation and bout tracking a little more effective and helpful over time.

You can download the scoreboard here: http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-scoreboard

To Add to this, we at RDNation are interested in hearing what folks want next for the scoreboard.

If any of the leagues use the scoreboard and want to help improve it.  Please just make suggestions here.  We are all ears!

Thanks for making the scoreboard very successful! We appreciate all the love we get.
