Poang scoreboard help
« on: March 11, 2012, 11:24:50 pm »
I'm going to be testing out the Poang scoreboard (used to be QCRG scoreboard) and I was wondering if anybody is using it and can give me some tips.  The documentation is sparse, and the google group hasn't had a post since last July.

In the settings you can set a slideshow length, but how do I display a slideshow?

Can I somehow get it to display a slideshow during intermission?

Does anybody have any media or animation files they use with Poang that they'd like to share?

Can anyone tell me how I can go about developing my own media and animations for Poang?

Thanks in advance!

I've recently started using Poang.  I'm not sure, but I believe the "slideshow" is the introductions slideshow.  I'm not sure it has more functionality than that... (and I'm definitely not a developer, so I'm sorry, but I can't help there!)

I recommend using the Carolina Rollergirls Scoreboard.

a) it has become "industry standard"
b) you can display your own video, single images, or an html page (which therefore can contain anything a browser can display)

Having used three different scoreboard software systems, they all have different advantages and disadvantages. However, until other systems implement the "Un-Do" that Carolina has, that will remain the one that Atlanta uses.

I set up keyboard shortcuts which allow me to run the scoreboard without ever needing to look at the computer, plus if I mistakenly start a jam, stop a jam, or start a timeout, the shift of the same button is set to undo that mistake. It's saved the bacon of one scoreboard operator during a bout I was working.

I'll have to take a look at it....it's a bit more complicated set-up wise, that's why I went with poang.  I'll see if I can get it running tonight, and if so then maybe I'll try that one this weekend instead!

Thanks for the recommendation!

I can't find anything in the wiki about intros.  Does it not have an intro function?

@CircuitBroad

To run a slideshow in poang you need to highlight all the entries you would like to be in the slideshow. This can include the scoreboard etc. When i say highlight I don't mean tick but rather click on the names, holding down shift to select a block of entries or control to select individual entries.

animations and video have to be in SWF format (flash). I believe there a number of different animations in older versions of puang. There are video to swf conversion software out there to convert video that will play in it however there is an issue where the audio won't stop playing. Not sure if the developer has looked at this and not sure how active he is with the project. This is something I will look at fixing myself when i have the time.

cheers,

Hope that helps !

I know there are a few boards out there, but I figured I would point you to one that I am currently building and which is in Beta Mode.

We hope to have it released at the end of the month.   We hope to make it the easiest to use and start up.  While all the features are still being built, it does work.

You can check it out here:

http://rdnation.com/roller-derby-scoreboard

At the bottom of the page, you can see a comparison chart on what we currently have and what we hope to have soon.

Ok, there is no reason to be promoting your scoreboard on this thread. You've already (recently) created a thread about the fact that you have a scoreboard in development and you want people to test it.

This post is approaching spam. Please stop.
