last 10 seconds
« on: April 22, 2012, 12:11:04 am »
I had a jammer ask me if they had to stand for their last 10 seconds or if they could leave at the end of their time from a seated position.  Her thinking being that this way the other team would not have a heads up when the jammer was going to be released and they could come in and surprise the other team hopefully gaining an advantage.  WFTDA rules state that they must stand, but it does not state what happens if they don't stand.  Would this fall under insubordination??

With 10 seconds left on their penalty time, a skater must stand. The current ruleset is very clear on that.

If the penalized skater does not stand, the penalty timer should inform that skater their penalty will not continue to be timed until they do stand. So the skater will effectively be extending their penalty time.

No insubbordination for failure to stand when told to.
You will bout as you practice.

Goes for anyone sitting in the box, but the point persists regardless.

Also remember that there should be a standard for what constitutes standing, for the sake of consistency. If you're PBM or PBO, it's usually something that you'd bring up during the pre-game meetings.
also known as Apron, if you didn't know already.

I've had this question come up a few times lately (what constitutes standing?). My explanation is that, as an inside pack ref, I should be able to glance over at the penalty box and know that someone is standing. If it is not absolutely clear that person is standing, they aren't standing.

Admin note: I've removed the poll on this thread. Polls are almost always unnecessary. In this case, nothing could be served through a poll that couldn't be served through discussion.
