Jammer Lap Point
« on: November 28, 2012, 12:10:23 am »
[rule]8.2.1 - A Jammer may score a Jammer lap point on their initial pass.[/rule]

One possible example we came up with during discussion of 1/1/13 is a Jammer getting sent to the box while both Jammers are on their Initial Pass. The opposing Jammer would get that JLP. Correct or no? What are some other examples of 8.2.1? Thanks.

If one jammer is sent to the box during the initial passes, that's not a JLP - that's a not on the track (NOTT) point. NOTT points are *not* independent of scoring passes, and the NOTT point will only be scored on the other jammer's first scoring pass, after she passes an on-track blocker.

The main example that is used for the initial pass JLP is the jammer-on-jammer yield, or jammer-on-jammer blocking. Imagine a pack that takes off *extremely* fast following the whistle, while one jammer immediately engages the other in jammer-on-jammer blocking at a very slow pace. A few seconds later, that fast pack has come around to nearly lap both jammers - at this point, one jammer knocks the other to the ground and takes off. The jammer on the ground is absorbed into the pack and (sorry, don't have rules reference at work) is on a negative pass (not her initial pass).

Meanwhile, the other jammer is quickly skating around to catch up to the back of the pack and begin her initial pass - while the first jammer is still stuck on her negative pass. As soon as the jammer on her initial pass laps the other jammer, she scores a JLP.
