First time filling out the stats book - help please
« on: March 05, 2013, 07:10:33 pm »
OK, in the past I've just handed off all of the paperwork to our archivist who handled all of the data entry. Now I am attempting to fill in the stats book myself and am confused. I think I have it mostly figured out, but some of the numbers don't add up.

I have it narrowed down to what looks like a problem with a hidden worksheet called "SK". This is a space for the backend tabulation that needs to happen to get the summary stats. My problem is that it only has room for 38 jams.  Period 1 has 21 jams, and those stats are all correct. Then Period 2 has 21 more jams, but the last four don't get tabulated because there are only 38 rows and I have 42 jams. So while the final score is correct, none of the stats related to score are correct on the Bout Summary sheet.

One thing I noted is that the part of worksheet SK that calculates Period 2 includes 21 blank lines. That got me thinking that maybe the problem is that I numbered the jams in Period 2 starting with "22". Is that the problem? That pushes the data down to row 22 in the SK worksheet and it runs out of space. But I tried going back and renumbering my Period 2 jams as 1-21 and it didn't change the worksheet.

Edit: UGH, nevermind any of this.  I figured it out.  the spreadsheet was defaulted to not recalculate until saving.  As soon as I saved with the new jam numbers it was all right.

Lesson learned: restart jam numbers in the new period, even though our scoreboard keeps a running total.

Also - if you're using the Carolina scoreboard, it has an option to tick which resets jam number count at half time - solves all the problems!
