Well, if the Yellow Blocker wants to take a chance she can leave earlier and hope the timer has truly run out even if I haven't made it to "done." The rules don't say that a blocker has to wait until I release them. They just have to make sure that their time is up.

[rule]7.2.7 - After serving the required time in the penalty box, a penalized skater may re-enter the track.[/rule]

Jammers, however, do have to wait until told.

[rule]7.3.4 - If a penalized Jammer exits the penalty box before being officially dismissed by an official, that Jammer will be required to return to the box and serve any unserved time, no matter how small.[/rule]

I think we're all missing a key point in that any solid penalty box timer should be timing their verbal cue so that the '  done' or ' stand'  cue occurs on the exact time.that is,  start at 59  seconds  with color number so that done comes out bang on  sixty seconds.

when it comes to jammer  penalties I would not protest to a timer shortening it to ' done'  with a shoulder tap when absolutely required,  but I would also not protest a timer speeding through the full cue.

apologies for the typing,  on my phone.

If there is even of a fraction of a second between them I will say both commands properly and in order. I will say them fast, but there will be a lag. If your number is Yellow WWW0 you pay the penalty.

This bothers me.

To paraphrase George Orwell: "Change any of the verbal cues sooner than break the rules."

I would have to agree with this. I just looked in detail at the rule book and all officiating documents on WFTDA's website and there is no mentioning of "Color,#,Stand/Done" on any of the documents. While it is accepted by everyone as "Standard Practice" in an instance where it would cause any sort of advantage (even if it just a second or two) you must use another method of dismissing the skater. 7.3.4 merely states that Jammers must be officially dismissed by an official before leaving the box; there is absolutely no required way to do this.
