WFTDA logo patches on NSO uniforms
« on: July 18, 2013, 05:51:43 am »
Hi,

I have some WFTDA Apprentice logo patches from a WFTDA-apprenticed derby league that I was a member & NSO of. I've since transferred to two other leagues, who I don't know for certain are currently WFTDA apprenticed.

Would it be wrong if I wore an NSO shirt (yes it's pink) with the WFTDA patch logo on it, while NSO'ing at scrimmages?

Or do I have to wait until my leagues are apprenticed to WFTDA to wear a uniform with that logo?

It seems like a very minor thing, but I don't want to upset anyone.

Thanks,
Brand new to the radical world of refereeing.

I believe etiquette recommends that you remove the patches until such time as any league you're affiliated with becomes an AP or full member league.

The wearing of a patch indicates that you're affiliated with a league that has met some form of WFTDA standards/approval, and has some access to the non-public WFTDA forums/documents etc. If nothing else, wearing a patch may give other officials the idea that you are still affiliated with a member league and are currently under a non-disclosure agreement with WFTDA, where your existing agreement through your old league has lapsed.

WFTDA patches are exclusively for members of the leagues in question (apprentice or full member as relevant), and for officials at WFTDA tournaments (that is, a non-WFTDA, non-certified official is eligible to wear a WFTDA NSO polo shirt (which comes pre-printed with logo) at a Divisional tournament, for example).

While I agree with Numb3r Crunch3r as far as etiquette at real bouts, at scrimmages I don't really care what my NSOs wear. I'm just happy to have NSOs show up for scrimmages.

This is not a "What should/could be worn for scrimmage" issue.  This is a, "Who may wear a WFTDA member league or AP league patch" question.  And the answer to that question is "Only those who are current members of a WFTDA member league may wear the member league patch, and only those who are current members of a WFTDA AP league may wear the AP league patch on any garment at any time."

So, if you're not currently a member of a WFTDA member or AP league, please remove those patches from anything you own before you wear them anywhere.  If you're not sure if the league(s) of which you are a member is a WFTDA member or AP league, please do not wear anything with those patches on them until you find out the status of your league, and once you do find out the status of your league, please act accordingly.
