Errors in Officiating History spreadsheet for NSOs
« on: March 10, 2014, 10:12:24 pm »
I was updating my officiating history/resume and noticed that there is a problem (which only really matters to NSOs) - any bout that you worked as the C/HNSO, what position you actually did isn't listed in the summary.

For example, it looks, from my summary, that I've had no experience wrangling, simply because I was the one who was the HNSO at those times.  And I'm going to assume that when a tournament staffs people, they just look at that summary page, so they will assume that I shouldn't wrangle because I have no experience in it.  I'm not concerned because I won't be a wrangler (though I prefer that to tracking), rather, that the organizers are handcuffed because they don't have an accurate view of what the applicants are experienced with...

This isn't/shouldn't be a problem for skating officials, since the HR suppose to be one of the IPRs, so there shouldn't be much problem with the HR not getting credit for being a JR

I don't know of an easy way to tweak the formula to fix it, either, since it needs to match column L for each respective code, but only on those rows where columns G,H,I or J are filled in accordingly, so maybe this was just left as a "known issue"... (Nor would I unilaterally change my resume regardless)

This has come up before and the short of it is that it's intentional, not an error. HNSO is higher in the hierarchy of positions than whatever other position you held. Plus, most HNSOs also work a second position, so it's simply assumed when HNSO is listed that you were doing a lot. While it can be hard to see certain numbers languish, it keeps the numbers between bouts officiated and positions served consistent.

That's how it's been explained to me, at least.

I believe the Game History for HR is the same.  The summary does not show what particular position you actually worked while you were the HR.

That's because HR's are only IPR (if following the rules 100%)

And I'm going to assume that when a tournament staffs people, they just look at that summary page, so they will assume that I shouldn't wrangle because I have no experience in it.

I have no idea how other THNSOs do this, but I absolutely look beyond the summary page.  Not only do I look at your "WFTDA NSO" tab to see what you were doing as HNSO (because I want to know what you've done and what you can do), but I also look at the "Other" tabs, because that's still valid experience.  I'd rather staff someone who's jam timed 75 full-length games between non-WFTDA teams than someone who's jam timed one intraleague game for a WFTDA league.  I think most THNSOs would agree that they also look beyond the summary.

That's because HR's are only IPR (if following the rules 100%)

I think you mean if following the standard practices 100%, as the rules do not specify which position the HR can fulfill.
