March 2014 StatsBook - Penalties
« on: March 11, 2014, 03:15:56 pm »
1. Why 10 columns? How can you go beyond 7 penalties?
2. How do you record non skaters expulsions? There is no way of telling who is the expelled, right?

Thanks in advance.

Hola Mojo Jojo!

Yes, a skater fouls out after 7 penalties, and the new Statsbook permits up to 9 penalties to be recorded per skater.

Why? Skaters have always been able to earn more than seven penalties, we just haven't been able to properly track this situation before now.

Legend has it that there are a few skaters who, upon earning a seventh penalty trip, decide "they have nothing left to lose" and then earn another before going off the track. Eight, now. And by earning that eighth, they may failed to leave the track immediately, which means they might also have just earned another for Insubordination. Nine. Which all need to be tracked, so they may be served by substitutes from their team, and now we can properly attribute the penalties to the appropriate skater in the game stats, too.

For non-skater expulsions (aka bench staff expulsions) the Penalty Tracker will need to write-in the staffer's name, if an expulsion occurs. Bench staff names are not captured on the IBRF, so this is a quick hack to be able track this data. Such an expulsion also triggers a case where the Captain serves the penalty, but it doesn't count toward the Captain's penalty total. Again, this was done so that we can properly attribute the penalties to the appropriate person in the game stats. The only penalty codes to be used in those boxes are N & G (well, yes, you could write others in there, but the only ones that will be counted in the stats are N & G, per the 2014March01 Rules).
You will bout as you practice.

I've given out a 10th penalty in a situation similar to what FN describes.. Skater earned a 7th Major for a Low Block. Decided to make an otherwise beautiful OOP hit on an opposing skater; Flip me the bird; and then get in a fight when one of the opposing skaters (also penalized and ejected) left the penalty box early and tackled her for the cheap shot on her team mate.

Lowblock=7
Insubordination=8
Misconduct=9 (older rules set)
Fighting=Expulsion 10

Sad for her team, it was a close game, she was the jammer.. And now they were without a jammer for 4 minutes.. Which allowed the other team to make a last 2 jam comeback and win.

Non-WFTDA Sanctioned play.
