Reactions to the April 2014 StatsBookS
« on: April 22, 2014, 05:48:47 am »
Biggest change has to the availability of an official WFTDA StatsBook in A4 paper format. (It is a sane paper sizing scheme, which reduces paper waste, among other nice things.)

We killed off most of the reported bugs, and instances of 'bout'.

The missing formulas on the Score tab exist again.

Calculations should be far more accurate now.
Non-skater expulsions count toward team totals now, but not to skater totals.
Jams Played totals on the Game Summary sheet shows Star Passes accurately again.
That also means +/- calcs should be closer to their 2013 realities once again.

Instructions have been updated in many places to match WFTDA Standard Practices, Clinics and Certification requirements (and future StatsBook development plans).

Yes, Star Passes are handled slightly differently on Score than they are on Lineups. Please read the newest Star Passes sheet, which explains expected procedures for paper, and those for during data entry, and has some Excel data entry tips.

There a new column lurking on the Penalty Box paperwork.

Penalties sheet has some Conditional Formatting to make entering 2nd period data nicer. It's even Excel 2007 happy (because the formula it uses gets all data from the same sheet; the Conditional Formatting on Score and Lineups is pulling from across different sheets, which 2007 no can do. Blame Microsoft.) Hat tip to @Sam Bergus for reminding us this could be nice to have. It is. (We tweaked Sam's formula slightly, so it should weather future updates more robustly.)

And FYI, we are so looking into KillC's suggested changes, too. We want to get rid of the hidden columns in the Lineups tab, but we also want to make certain everything calculates at least as well as it did in the 2013 version.
You will bout as you practice.

Thank the derby gods for the A4 formatting.

..and the bug fixes.

Note that when opened in Libre Office (which is suppose to support conditional formatting), the period 2 PT sheet grays out all of the home team’s penalty/jam# area (except for the code line of the 20th skater, plus the code lines for the two non-skater expulsions) and the first and last columns of the away team’s penalty/jam# area (with the 20th skater being even weirder in it’s formatting).

Given the weirdness of the 20th skater when viewing in Libre Office, I’m not sure that the shading is correct for them in Excel either.

But regardless, it is definitely not compatible with Libre Office as is…

Edit: LibreOffice does support conditional formatting, but it looks like the references to P1 aren’t valid - it shows things like:
Formula Is: NOT(ISBLANK(#REF!#REF)) for the condition of the grayed out areas

I'll need OS & LO version info, please. Interesting that it freaks on this CF, and apparently doesn't blink at that used on Score and Lineups. Know any talented open source programmers with a little time on their hands, while I'm asking for things? Oh, and a pony, of course, please.

LO: 4.2.2.1 (which was the newest non-development version just a couple of weeks ago - I see the new “fresh” version is 4.2.3 and “stable” version 4.1.5)
Mac OS: 10.9.2

The CF on Score and Lineups are missing altogether.

I’ll download 4.2.3 and see if that helps any
I’ll try

4.2.3 (most recent stable) has the same problem.

Fixing it is actually pretty simple.

1) Open the stat book spread sheet.

2) Go to the penalties tab.

3) In the Format Menu select Conditional Formatting > Manage...

4) Select the first (only) thing there, which should say “AT44:AU45,AS4:BA43,AE44:AF45,AD4:AL43” for range and the “Formula is NOT(ISBLANK(#REF!#REF!))”

5) Click Edit and change that #REF!#REF! to B4 (so it now says "NOT(ISBLANK(B4))”)

6) Click OK (from the edit dialog)

7) Click OK (from the manage dialog)

Everything should be good

What is the best recommendation for printing pages for NSO positions to practice during scrimmage?  I have tried the A4 and Letter statsbook, but I get errors trying to print from them using OL free file viewer (and I don't have an up-to-date MS Office Suite).
Thanks a million ,
Stella

I am getting VERY frustrated with the new statbook.  At our bouts last month (using the 3/2014 statbook), I had a very frustrated interleague coordinator upset with our league for the errors in the statbook (lineup data did not translate, etc.).  Although I tried to explain about my inability to figure out the issue, because the statbook was new and had errors, there was definitely an implication that we just didn't know how to fill it out.  NOW THE NEW VERSION OF THE STATBOOK (4/2014) is also having issues.  I do not care to be yelled at AGAIN this month for statbook errors.

I am not a very Excel Savvy kind of lady, and I cannot figure out why my lineup information is not translating into the Penalty summary Tab.  The Game Summary Tab is not receiving the lineup data, the penalty data, OR the action tracking data.

Has anyone else run across this problem?  Did you find a way to fix it?

All of my data has been entered at this point, and I am waiting to send out the statbooks until I know that the errors are fixed (or that I at least made an effort to fix them to the best of my ability).  I am using Excel 2010 and the US letter version of the Statbook from 4/2014.  Any help you could provide would be AWESOME!!!  Thanks guys!

Holla!

@Retro,
Without seeing the actual file, I can only make a guess, but...

That sounds like a problem with the skater numbers in the IGRF not getting pulled everywhere they need to be. ALthough they may look like they are where they should be, if they were simply pasted into the IGRF that may be the cause of the issue. (When pasting, use Paste Special... Values to paste in skater numbers. Look under the bottom half of the Paste button in the Clipboard group of the Home command tab on the Ribbon. Or else right-click, and choose Paste Special... from the pop-up menu).

You can also just re-enter those skater numbers by manually typing them in on the IGRF, and see if that doesn't cause the data to flow where you expect it to.
You will bout as you practice.
