Low block?
« on: August 18, 2014, 06:54:26 pm »
I had this happen Saturday night.  Black skater falls (not small) and purple skater gets feet tangled, eventually falling.  The wrinkle is that the jam ended between feet getting tangled and purple skater falling.   Illegal engagement (late hit) definitely felt wrong there and the low block did not seem quite right either since the jam was over when the purple skater fell.

In hind sight, I'm thinking low block.  That night we ended up letting it slide.  What do you think?

I can't say for sure that it was a low block since I didn't see it. What I can say is that if you would have called it a low block under normal circumstances, it should be called as a low block under this circumstance. The fact that the jam ended doesn't negate the illegal action.

Thanks, Wood.  That's what I was thinking.  It just seemed odd at the time to call low block after the jam was over.

Consider it this way ( sorry for the necro) if you wouldn't give purple the misconduct for initiating the block on the downed skater, don't give her the penalty for the illegal engagement.
