Jammer False Start
« on: July 25, 2015, 05:06:18 pm »

Prior to and at the moment of the Jam Starting Whistle Pink Jammer is accelerating.  The jam starts and she immediately passes an opponent by several feet and now that opponent is behind the Jammer and is engaging a different opponent legally, i.e. typical and legal game play.  The JR immediately gives Pink Jammer a False Start warning.  The Pink Jammer immediately yields and then continues on through the pack and is the first jammer out of the pack.  Does the Jammer:

1.  Get awarded lead?
2.  Not lead do to NP/NP on the blocker she passed but yielded to during the False Start warning?
3.  Is she considered as not yielding appropriately and sent to the box for a Failure to Yield?

Thanks for your input.

If she successfully yielded to and then legally passed that blocker as well as all the other blockers, shed earn lead jammer.

Stray Taco has it right, but I'd add one thing.  Here's the relevant rule.

[rule] - Prior to yielding, any Skaters passed by a false-starting Jammer do not count toward earning Lead Jammer status.[/rule]

The yielding is required to avoid a penalty.  The jammer must then legally pass the blocker to earn lead jammer status.  Yielding does not count as legally passing.

If she yielded them passed the blocker legally, award lead jammer.  If not, don't. - The referee who quotes a rule with the most digits is declared the winner.
