Readable font?
« on: March 10, 2016, 08:03:05 pm »
If you saw a jersey with this number on the back, would you allow it? It's the required height, but I'm not sure if it meets the definition of "readable".

[rule]2.7.4.3 - A Skater’s roster number must be of a readable font. A number is of readable font if it can be easily read and distinguished from the other Skaters’ numbers by the Officials, other Skaters, and audience members.[/rule]

I've had a couple different opinions on how readable it is (especially the first number), so I'd like to get a wider perspective.

Taco and I had a separate conversation about this.  I initially read it as 723, while his first impression was 123.  Hence the discussion about readability.
6.1.3.5.1.2.3 - The referee who quotes a rule with the most digits is declared the winner.

Perfectly readable, "Red Z 2 3"   ;)

Actually I probably wouldn't read it as a Z, but even after staring at it for a moment, I don't know if it is a 1 or 7?  What did it say on the roster?

It was 723. I went ahead and checked with the game's HR and he cleared her to skate. This was a temporary emergency situation (jerseys hadn't come in yet) so is no longer an issue. Still, it's made for  some interesting conversation!

As HR I would allow it.  If the number is unclear as this, I would clarify the number with the skater and make sure all Referee's and NSO's know what the actual number is.  Once Taco clarified what number is was I could read the number, therefore making it readable.  Sometimes things just need a little clarification to make sense.
