Returning the Star after Star Pass Violation
« on: August 19, 2016, 02:16:28 pm »
Scenario:

- An illegal star pass occurs that ends up with the Pivot holding the star and being sent to the penalty box.
- Pivot immediately leaves the track, but stands out of bounds next to the pack.
- Jammer skates over, Pivot hands/tosses the cover to the Jammer
- Jammer dons the cover and Pivot heads for the box

Anything illegal here? (Other than the original Star Pass Violation).

From what I see, this is perfectly legal, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. The Pivot isn't guilty of insubordination because she's off the track, and there's no restrictions on giving the cover back to the Jammer.

I know some things, but there's a lot more I don't know.

Looks like clean play to me.

A penalized skater is only required to leave the track (and not return until their time is served.) I did have a quick look at the star-pass section of the rules to double check the return of the helmet cover to the jammer.

[rule]2.5.4.1 - If the Pivot recovers the Star in this manner, it does not transfer Jammer Status. As such, the Pivot may not place it on their own helmet. Doing so will be considered illegal initiation of a Star Pass. The Pivot may return it to the inactive Jammer via a hand-off, throwing, or dropping, but not via other Skaters.[/rule] (Emphasis mine.)

I don't see anything illegal here, either.

I think it's all legal, and I've seen it at least twice in sanctioned play, I'm pretty sure.

Legal. Also I think we would agree standing out of bounds instead of reporting to the box is no advantage.
