Lead Jammer Clarification
« on: May 24, 2018, 05:36:01 pm »
This just in from the WFTDA Rules Committee: (not NDA)

There's been an issue in the rules for years about whether the "foremost in play blocker" is a specific position that transfers from skater to skater and that needs to be passed in order to earn lead, and what happens when a Jammer escapes the pack without ever specifically passing this position. This conflict also exists in the current rules due to contradictory language between the rule and the casebook. (There's a second issue where the rules re-write, also introduced a change regarding which blockers need to be passed in order to issue lead.)

The Rules Committee is issuing the following clarified language for when lead is earned. It should be considered effective immediately, and we are working to change the language in the published rules as soon as possible.

Quote
2.2.2. Lead Jammer

The Lead Jammer is the first Jammer who establishes a superior position to the foremost in play Blocker, having already earned a pass on all Blockers excluding those ahead of the Engagement Zone. (remaining paragraph unchanged)
