BTW, all of you should be tuned in to derbynewsnetwork right now watching Eastern Regionals in Raleigh. Your Zebra Huddle admin, Major Wood, is currently outside pack reffing the Gotham vs Providence bout, and your moderators DayGlo Divine and Johnny Zebra are both there reffing all weekend as well. No better way to see good reffing in action than to watch these tournaments. Enjoy!

Johnny is apparently JR'ing the Charm City v. DC bout live right now. Awesome.

That one was a rough one. I got to call a misconduct for hearing a skater say (not to me): "You've got to call that sh*t, you retard."

Classy.

Very impressed with the ultra-high standard of officiating on display, and good to see folks from here and/or whose names I recognise doing their thing.

I'm looking forward to watching this first-hand today.

Here's a random question.  When you go to other league's games to watch... do you tend to watch the game's officiating more than the game?

Very often yes. I can't actually watch derby anymore. If I do watch derby, I'm only calling penalties.

I know I have a hard time watching the gameplay. I like to watch the refs, and yell at them silently when they miss stuff. It was awesome watching this online yesterday and seeing the penalties along with the refs and seeing their very obvious hand signals. You kids did a really good job.

It takes alot of effort for me to watch the actual game of derby as opposed to the officiating of derby at this point.  The really bad part about watching the officiating is that since the angle from the stands,or even on the floor, is different than the angle on the track I almost always see things the refs didn't see, and don't see some of the penalties they did call.  This makes watching officiating frustrating at times(often).

I'm sitting on my hands a lot... I managed to stop myself shouting but found myself signalling from the crowd.

Full hour of merby today! Major Wood is jam reffing it! It looks like it will be between bouts 1 and 2, though it's not listed on the DNN schedule

Crew changes- Merby is between bouts 2 and 3. Major Wood is not reffing it.

After the opening jam I retreated to a safer spot than trackside :-)

It was f$#%*ing the most amazing bout I've ever reffed. Worth three years of training and learning and spending, just for those 60 minutes.

Also *very* proud of our crew. A few things here and there, as always, but basically: rock solid.

Incredible. I sincerely doubt there will ever again be a situation in a game of derby as dramatic and exciting as that last jam.
