When you say source code, what exactly do you mean? Is it not the swf file?

no, the source file is a ".fla" file. it is like pps and ppt in powerpoint.
usually it is quite easy to make the button areas bigger, but I guess L8erSk8er's brother scripted it pretty good, so you probably should know some Actionscript. If your brother is willing to give away the fla file it shouldn't be a problem to modify it for someone who knows flash. (I am a little out of the game for a couple of years, I let others do it)
I have no idea of smart phones. can't they run flash content in a browser? it is no problem to include a swf in a html page (that's what you usually do). At least on an iPhone it should run in Safari.

...and there is no way to convert Flash to Java...

No, the iPhone shouldn't be able to run that in safari, it doesn't have a flash player. Adobe has flash ready for the iPhone, but Apple keeps saying no.

I suggested java because it works on just about everything, and there isn't much to a penalty box timer program, should be simple for an experienced programmer.

how do you run an exe on a mac? do you have it as an swf as well?

Ask and ye shall receive!

DerbyTimer.swf

That's a great start. Treble Damage at CCRG has something similar, but with the added feature of when a player hits 10 seconds, they are moved down into another box. Otherwise, you cannot accommodate players sitting with players standing.

What if the timer started to flash with less than 10 to go ? Also a second start button for each player one can be set to 1:00 and the other 2:00.
We are planning on trying this Saturday night (5/16/09) with a small touchscreen PC.

there the timer starts flashing at 10 secs..

Right, no one has been able to modify the program. I have used the flash timer for a couple of bouts now(or rather the penalty timer used it) on a touchscreen handheld and it worked out very well.

cool.. I was thinking about using it for our next home bout, too. But now with 4.0 I will have three NSOs running the box.. that is easier to do with stopwatches...

I had been planning on having two people in the box for 4.0, one with the timer program to time the blockers, and one with stop watches to time the jammers. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm confident it will work out well.

We'll be using the iPhone tiemr app this weekend. Mush as I love the Derby Timer, its much easier to use a handheld device than a laptop.

As has been mentioned in other locales about this fine app, be certain the iPhone is put into "airplane mode" to disallow incoming calls and texts. I've reffed an away bout where the volunteer they pulled from the crowd to run the penalty box allowed skaters to sit for more than 1 minute, because the vol was too busy texting during the jams.

Seems like a common sense thing, but if common sense were actually common, it wouldn't be valued so much. Add an item to your pre-bout checklist, if you have to, until you get some steady, clueful volunteers manning that important role.
You will bout as you practice.

Cheers,
