I've personally found that as long as I use the "ref voice" I have no problems being heard, even in the loudest venues I've reffed so far. Having said that, I've not reffed tournaments or any multiple bouts over a weekend, and I'm not sure how well my voice would hold up in that situation. I'm guessing plenty of water and some lozanges between bouts go a long way, though.

I've also seen a singer us "Chloroseptic" spray in between performances to last longer.

How many of you have fallen on your keys?

I don't like to talk about it...

Never done it myself, but it is pretty funny to watch. :P

The announcer table at Nationals was littered with bottles of that stuff.

Today the Apple iPad was released.

Here is my vision: All white boards and stats sheets used for outside penalty wranglers, penalty trackers, score trackers, penalty box timers, and jam timers would be replaced with iPads.  Information would be automatically synced with NSOs and announcers wirelessly.  Scores and stats would be shared and explained to the audience in real time.

If you donate enough iPads to test this idea, I'll be happy to write the software for it, because it does sound like a pretty neat idea. Just keep in mind that that's at least $3000 worth of gear, in a position where there's a high probability that it will meet a sudden and crunchy end under a wayward skater.

Apple should sponsor roller derby leagues to help market this latest gizmo.  Roller derby is way cooler than Apple and it would be an awesome way to showcase the iPad's potential.  8)

Ok, enough of this thread. I'm still surprised people are trying to come up with uses for the ipad, anyway.
