Some refs simply can't do it. What if you have a ref who never works well with others but is really solid in all of their calls? They discourage less experienced refs, yell at other refs during bouts, yell at players who don't know the rules super well during bouts, and make everything more hectic.

(working on a policy in case this should come along in the future.... thoughts?)

Try to work with them on those areas.

Failing that you have to let them seek other refereeing opportunities.

A good ref is not a soloist, but is part of a chorus.
You will bout as you practice.

As head ref?  If so, I would ask them to conduct themself as a professional in a professional sport.  Furthermore I would add that if they had any issues with other officials in the bout to talk to me about it between periods or jams.  We work as a team and for someone, no matter how adept at what they do, to demean other members of that is counter productive.  We all know that we are not entirely at the same skill level.  That is acceptable, not a reason for berating.

There isNO appropriateness whatsoever at yelling at either Other Referees OR skaters during a bout.
Being loud and communicating to them so they can hear during the Jam? Yes.
"Black 13 Major Elbow" to the player  or "NO Lead, She cut 1 blocker".. to the Jammer Ref, no problem.
But yelling at or berating other Zeebs or the players is HIGHLY unprofessional and should not be tolerated.

If they can't learn to behave in an appropriate professional demeanor, Bench them.
